Product Overview

What Is a Mold Racking System?

A mold racking system — also known as mould rack, die storage rack, or mold finishing rack — is a specialized heavy-duty storage system designed specifically for storing, organizing, and protecting high-value molds used in injection molding, die casting, stamping, and blow molding operations.

Unlike standard pallet racking, mold racks feature pull-out drawer trays (slide-out shelves) that extend fully to allow overhead crane or forklift access to individual molds — without disturbing adjacent inventory. Each tray is engineered to support 500 kg to 3,000 kg and slides on precision roller bearings or heavy-duty linear guides.

Modern mold racks include anti-tip safety interlocks (only one tray opens at a time), rust-resistant surface treatment, and optional RFID/barcode tracking integration for complete mold lifecycle management. Available in full-open, half-open, and enclosed drawer configurations with 2 to 5 tiers per unit.

At Gieantech, our mold racks are manufactured from Q235B / Q345B structural steel, with a 3-step anti-corrosion process (pickling → phosphating → powder coating), and designed to meet ISO 9001, CE, and SGS standards. We supply to injection molding factories, automotive OEMs, and precision tooling workshops across 57+ countries.

Common Pain Points

Mold Storage Challenges You Face Daily

If your molds are stored on the floor, stacked haphazardly, or crammed onto unsuitable shelving — you’re losing time, money, and risking serious damage.

Floor Clutter & Chaos

Molds stored on the floor or in corners waste valuable factory space, create safety hazards, and make inventory impossible to manage systematically.

Slow Retrieval & Downtime

Searching for the right mold among hundreds of disorganized units causes machine downtime, missed production schedules, and delayed customer deliveries.

Rust, Dust & Damage

Poor storage environments — humidity, dust, no oil protection — lead to mold corrosion, surface damage, and shortened lifespan of high-value tooling assets.

High-Value Asset Loss

A single mold can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Misplacement, damage from improper stacking, or "missing mold" incidents result in costly re-manufacturing.

Safety Risks

Heavy molds (often 500–3,000 kg) pose serious injury hazards when stored on unstable surfaces, improperly stacked, or handled without proper equipment.

No Traceability

Without systematic numbering, location tracking, or maintenance logs, mold history is lost during staff turnover — making audits and quality compliance impossible.

Key Advantages

Why Choose Our Mold Racking System?

Engineered to solve every mold storage challenge — protecting your highest-value manufacturing assets while maximizing operational efficiency.

Full Slide-Out Trays

Every tray extends 100% for complete overhead access. Load and unload molds with cranes or forklifts without moving adjacent items.

Anti-Tip Safety Interlock

Mechanical interlock allows only one tray to open at a time — preventing the rack from tipping under eccentric load. Critical for workplace safety.

3,000 kg / Tray Capacity

Heavy-gauge steel trays on precision roller bearings support the heaviest injection molds, die-cast tooling, and stamping dies.

Maximize Vertical Space

Stack molds in 2–5 tiers instead of floor storage. Recover up to 80% of wasted floor space in your mold workshop.

RFID / Barcode Ready

Optional RFID tags and barcode labels per tray slot enable digital mold lifecycle tracking — usage history, maintenance schedules, and location mapping.

Anti-Corrosion Protection

3-step surface treatment (pickling → phosphating → powder coating) plus optional dehumidifier integration to prevent mold rust damage.

Organized Classification

Dedicated slots with clear labeling — organize by client, product line, mold type, or status (in production / maintenance / archived).

Faster Mold Changeover

Locate and retrieve any mold in minutes instead of hours. Reduce machine downtime and accelerate production scheduling.

System Components

Anatomy of a Mold Racking System

Every component is precision-engineered to safely support, access, and protect heavy-value molds.

01

Upright Frame

Heavy-gauge Q235B/Q345B welded steel columns (2.5–3.0mm thick) forming the main structural skeleton. Designed for eccentric loads from extended trays.

02

Slide-Out Trays

Steel platform trays with precision roller bearing guides for smooth, effortless extension. Available in full-open (100%) or half-open (50–75%) configurations.

03

Anti-Tip Interlock

Mechanical safety device ensuring only one tray opens at a time. Prevents rack tipping from eccentric loading — a critical safety feature for heavy molds.

04

Guide Rails & Rollers

Heavy-duty linear guide systems with steel rollers enabling smooth tray movement even under 3,000 kg loads. Self-lubricating for low maintenance.

05

Limit Stops & Locks

End-of-travel limit stops prevent trays from sliding out completely. Manual locking pins secure trays in closed position during transport and seismic events.

06

Floor Anchoring System

Heavy-gauge base plates with M16 expansion anchors secure the rack to the factory floor. Essential for stability when trays are fully extended under load.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about mold racking systems — answered by our engineering team.

Our standard mold rack trays support up to 3,000 kg per tray, with total rack capacity reaching 12,000 kg (4 trays × 3,000 kg). Actual capacity depends on tray dimensions, guide rail specifications, and frame gauge. We provide detailed load calculations for every project.
The anti-tip mechanical interlock is a safety device that allows only one tray to be opened at a time. When a tray is pulled out, all other trays are automatically locked in place. This prevents the rack from tipping over due to eccentric loading — a critical safety feature when handling molds weighing 1,000+ kg.
Our mold racks accommodate virtually all mold types: plastic injection molds, die-casting dies, stamping dies, blow molds, rubber molds, forging dies, and precision tooling. We customize tray dimensions and load ratings to match your specific mold portfolio — from small precision molds to large automotive body panel tooling.
Each tray runs on precision heavy-duty roller bearings or linear guide rails rated for the tray's full load capacity. A handle or forklift pocket at the front allows operators to smoothly pull the tray outward (50%, 75%, or 100% extension). End-of-travel limit stops prevent over-extension, and manual locking pins secure the tray when closed.
Yes. We offer optional RFID tag slots and barcode label holders on each tray position. When connected to a mold management software system, you can track mold location, usage history, maintenance schedules, shot counts, and lifecycle status in real time — meeting IATF 16949 and ISO quality audit requirements.
Our 3-step surface treatment (pickling → phosphating → electrostatic powder coating at 60-80μm) provides excellent corrosion resistance. For high-humidity environments, we recommend enclosed drawer-type configurations plus optional industrial dehumidifier integration to maintain optimal storage conditions for your molds.
Absolutely. Share your workshop dimensions, mold inventory list (quantities, sizes, weights), crane specifications, and workflow requirements. Our team delivers free AutoCAD floor plans and 3D renderings showing optimized rack placement, aisle clearances, crane operating zones, and material flow paths.
Standard MOQ is 10 units (negotiable). Production lead time is 15–25 working days depending on specifications and quantity. We offer both fully assembled (for domestic or nearby markets) and CKD flat-pack (for international shipping) options. Sea freight adds approximately 15–25 days.
We provide a 10-year structural warranty covering manufacturing defects and material failures under normal use. Roller bearings and guide rails carry a 3-year warranty for wear components. With proper loading and maintenance, our mold racks typically last 15–25+ years in industrial environments.
